Mack Defense partners with JWF in Johnstown, PA for Lakota production

ALLENTOWN, Pa., June 6 (UPI) Mack Defense has partnered with JWF Defense Systems for the assembly of Mack’s 6×6 Lakota armored vehicle system, which will come in five variants.

Under the agreement, JWF Defense Systems will also manufacture armored hulls for the vehicles.

“We look forward to working with JWF Defense Systems on the assembly of these vehicle solutions along with production of their armored hulls,” said Ryan Werling, president of Mack Defense, a member of the Volvo Group. “JWF Defense has a long tradition of supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, and we are excited to have them as part of our team.

“In addition to the partnership for the Lakota system, we also believe there is an opportunity for JWF to participate in the assembly of other armored vehicle programs that we are pursuing around the globe.”

The Mack Defense’s Lakota 6×6, which can carry as many as 12 soldiers, features a U.S.-built engine and transmission and has a maximum speed of 62 miles per hour. Its range is as much as 1,400 miles.

Mack Defense said the system offers the protection of a mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicle, but has superior off-road mobility and increaded multi-mission capabilities because if its unique design and lighter weight.

“The Lakota 6×6 delivers the capabilities of an 8×8, but at a fraction of the cost,” Werling said. “Combined with its MRAP-level protection, as well as lower overall lifecycle costs, the Lakota 6×6 is a compelling offer for any customer.”
