David C. Hartzell appointed President and CEO of Mack Defense

David Hartzell

Effective January 1, 2018, the Board of Mack Defense appointed David C. Hartzell, Sr. as President of Mack Defense, a position he has filled on an interim basis since September. As Mack Defense is a subsidiary of Mack Trucks, Inc., David will coordinate with Govi Kannan, who will provide administrative support and ensure the availability of Mack products to Mack Defense customers.

David joined Mack Defense as Director of Engineering in 2015, and, before becoming interim President, served as Senior Director of Product Development, Purchasing and Projects. Prior to that, he spent 23 years with Mack and brings a wealth of technical and operational experience that will help facilitate the realignment of Mack Defense with Mack Trucks following its separation from Volvo’s Governmental Sales Division.

Mack Defense partners with JWF in Johnstown, PA for Lakota production

ALLENTOWN, Pa., June 6 (UPI) Mack Defense has partnered with JWF Defense Systems for the assembly of Mack’s 6×6 Lakota armored vehicle system, which will come in five variants.

Under the agreement, JWF Defense Systems will also manufacture armored hulls for the vehicles.

“We look forward to working with JWF Defense Systems on the assembly of these vehicle solutions along with production of their armored hulls,” said Ryan Werling, president of Mack Defense, a member of the Volvo Group. “JWF Defense has a long tradition of supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, and we are excited to have them as part of our team.

“In addition to the partnership for the Lakota system, we also believe there is an opportunity for JWF to participate in the assembly of other armored vehicle programs that we are pursuing around the globe.”

The new Mack trucks destined for the Canadian Forces were put through cold temperature testing at the end of January.

The tests at the “cold chamber” at the National Research Council’s facility in Ottawa were successful, Department of National Defence officials told Defence Watch.

In July, then Defence Minister Jason Kenney announced that Mack Defense, LLC, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, had been awarded two contracts to provide standard military pattern trucks and related equipment for the Canadian Forces.

Assembly will take place in a Sainte-Claire, Quebec, plant operated by Prevost, one of the firms partnered with Mack.

The overall contract for the project, known by its military acronym as MSVS SMP, is worth $834 million.

Mack Defense wins Canadian Medium Support Vehicle System (MSVS) contract

Mack Defense has been contracted by Canada to provide 1,500 8×8 military trucks and to provide five years of in-service support for the vehicles.

The two awards were issued by the Canadian Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada on behalf of the Department of National Defense and are worth a combined total of more than $560.4 million.

The contracts, awarded by the Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada on behalf of the Department of National Defense, call for Mack to deliver more than 1,500 8×8 trucks, 300 trailers and 150 armor protection systems for the vehicles. Mack will provide an initial five years of in-service support for the truck fleet.

Deliveries will begin in summer 2017 with completion slated for fall 2018.

Mack Defense continues to thrive in the GSA market

Mack Defense, part of the Volvo Group, has been awarded a contract from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to supply Mack heavy-duty trucks, including those that run on natural gas.

As part of the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract, Mack Defense will supply Mack Pinnacle, Mack Granite and Mack TerraPro models for the government agency from now until the initial contract ends on Oct. 31. GSA has the option to extend the contract for an additional year through Oct. 31, 2016.
